Terms of Service

Last updated: October 20, 2026

Draft for review. These terms are not yet in effect and may change before Estate Vault launches.

These Terms are an agreement between you and Estate Vault, Inc., a Delaware corporation ("Estate Vault", "we", "us"). They cover your use of our website, our web app and our related services (together, the "Service").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

Please read section 15 carefully. It requires most disputes to be settled by individual arbitration rather than in court or as a class action, and explains how to opt out.

The short version

  • Estate Vault is not a law firm and does not give legal, tax or financial advice.
  • Your Money Map records what you intend. It is not a will, a trust or any other legal document, and it does not change who legally inherits anything.
  • Beneficiary forms, wills, trusts and titles decide who inherits. We don't check them, and what we get from your bank doesn't show them.
  • This is a beta. Things will change and sometimes break.
  • Membership renews every year until you cancel. You can get a full refund within 30 days of your first payment.

1. Who can use Estate Vault

To use the Service, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract,
  • live in the United States,
  • be invited, during the beta (see section 3),
  • use the Service only for your own personal estate planning, not for clients or as a business.

2. What Estate Vault is, and what it is not

What it is: a tool to help you organize, in one place:

  • what you own,
  • who you want to inherit it,
  • where your plan has gaps.

What it is not:

  • Not a law firm, and no legal advice. ESTATE VAULT IS NOT A LAW FIRM. We are not your lawyer, and using the Service does not create a lawyer-client relationship. Nothing in the Service is legal, tax, investment or financial advice. That includes risk flags, suggestions, "options" and emails. What you tell us is protected by our Privacy Policy, but not by attorney-client privilege.
  • Not a will, trust or legal instruction. Your Money Map, and any copy of it, records your intentions. It is not a will, trust, beneficiary designation, deed or any other legal document. It is not legally binding, and it does not change who inherits your property.
  • Not a check of your beneficiaries. Who receives an account or property after you die is usually decided by beneficiary forms held by your bank or plan provider, your will or trust, how the property is titled, and state law. These can override what you record with us.
    • We do not see, check or confirm any of these.
    • Information from Plaid shows that an account exists and its balance. It does not show who the legal beneficiary is.
    • Any beneficiary status shown in the app is what you told us.
  • Not a guarantee of accuracy. Balances and account details come from your financial institutions through Plaid, and from what you enter. They may be out of date, incomplete or wrong.
  • Not a place to store original documents, and not a way to pass your account to anyone after your death. See section 9.

Talk to a lawyer. Talk to a licensed attorney in your state before you rely on any estate plan. The same goes for naming a guardian for a minor, or leaving property to a minor.

3. Founding beta

The Service is in an invite-only founding beta, currently for members of the Rich Habits community.

During the beta:

  • Things will change. Features may be added, changed or removed without notice. Some may not work as expected.
  • Downtime and data loss can happen. The Service may be unavailable at times, and there may be errors or loss of data. Keep your own records of anything important.
  • We may limit or end the beta. We may limit who can join, or end the beta, at any time. If we end the Service entirely, we will give you at least 30 days' notice where we can.
  • Feedback is ours to use. If you send us ideas or feedback, we can use them without paying you or owing you anything.

4. Your account

  • Give us accurate information, and keep your password secure and private.
  • You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
  • Tell us right away at hello@tryestatevault.com if you think someone has accessed your account.
  • One person per account. Don't share your account or sign in as someone else.

5. Connecting financial accounts (Plaid)

  • Plaid connects your accounts. We use Plaid Inc. to connect your financial accounts. By connecting one, you allow Estate Vault and Plaid to access and send us account information from your institutions, as described in our Privacy Policy. Plaid handles your data under the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.
  • Read-only. Connections are read-only. Estate Vault cannot move money, make payments or change anything at your financial institution.
  • Third-party data. Your institutions and Plaid are third parties. We aren't responsible for the data they provide, or for any delay or outage on their side.
  • You can disconnect at any time in the app. You can also manage connections at my.plaid.com.

6. Information you add, including about other people

  • It stays yours. You own the information you put into the Service ("Your Content").
  • What you let us do with it. You give us permission to store, process and display Your Content, but only to provide and improve the Service for you, and as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • Your promise about other people. You will add details about other people only if you have the right to. That includes your heirs, children or grandchildren, and their photos. You must have the right to add them for your own estate planning.
  • We don't contact them. We don't contact the people you name, and they have no access to your account.
  • Your promise about content. You will not upload anything illegal, anything that infringes someone else's rights, or anything that is not a photo of the person it is attached to.

7. Membership and payment

  • Price. Membership costs $299 a year. Founding beta members who join with the founding offer pay $99 a year for as long as their membership stays active. Taxes may apply.
  • What membership includes today. Mapping your accounts, assets and heirs (the Money Map) works whether or not you are a member.
    • Membership does not unlock any extra features yet.
    • We plan to add features such as help preparing legal documents and a private vault. We do not promise that they will launch, when, or in what form. If and when they do, they may be provided by partners and come with extra terms.
  • Billing and renewal. Stripe processes payments. Your membership renews automatically each year at the then-current price, and your payment method is charged, until you cancel.
    • Where the law requires it, we will remind you before your membership renews.
    • If we raise the price, we will tell you at least 30 days before your next renewal.
  • Cancel any time in the billing portal in the app. Your membership stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for. Canceling your membership does not delete your account or your data.
  • Refunds. If you cancel within 30 days of your first payment, email us for a full refund. After that, payments are non-refundable, except where the law requires otherwise.
  • Failed payments. If a payment fails, we may pause or end your membership.

8. Acceptable use

Don't:

  • break the law, or use the Service for anyone else's finances without their permission,
  • try to get into accounts, data or systems that aren't yours, or probe, scan or test our security without our written permission,
  • copy, resell, reverse-engineer or scrape the Service,
  • overload the Service, or get around our limits,
  • upload malware, or content that is unlawful, harmful or infringing.

9. If you pass away or become unable to act

The Service doesn't let anyone access your account on your behalf. That includes family, executors and heirs.

Your Money Map is not a substitute for telling your executor and family where to find your legal documents.

If your executor or personal representative contacts us with a death certificate and proof of their legal authority, we will consider giving them a copy of your Money Map, or deleting your account at their request.

10. Our content and rights

The Service is owned by Estate Vault and protected by law. That includes our software, design, text and trademarks.

We give you a personal, limited, non-transferable right to use the Service under these Terms. We may revoke that right if you break these Terms.

11. Ending your account

  • You can stop using the Service at any time. To delete your account, email us at hello@tryestatevault.com. Our Privacy Policy explains what we keep and for how long.
  • We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, if we must for legal or security reasons, or if we end the Service. We will give you notice where we reasonably can.
  • Some sections stay in effect after your account closes. These sections survive: 2, 3 (feedback), 6 (your promises), 7 (amounts you owe), 10, and 12 through 17.

12. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE".

To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including:

  • merchantability,
  • fitness for a particular purpose,
  • title,
  • non-infringement.

We also do not promise that:

  • the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure,
  • any information in it, including balances, accounts and risk flags, is accurate, complete or current,
  • using the Service will achieve any particular estate-planning result.

13. Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows:

  • No indirect losses. Estate Vault and its officers, employees and contractors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. That includes any loss that comes from how your property is distributed after your death, or from relying on the Service instead of a lawyer.
  • A cap on the rest. Our total liability for all claims about the Service is limited to the greater of (a) what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) $100.

Some states don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

14. Indemnity

You will cover our costs and losses, including reasonable legal fees, if a claim is made against us because:

  • you broke these Terms,
  • you misused the Service,
  • you added information about another person without the right to.

15. Disputes

Talk to us first. Before you file any claim, email us at hello@tryestatevault.com and give us 60 days to try to resolve it informally.

Governing law. Delaware law governs these Terms, except for its rules on conflicts of law.

Individual arbitration.

  • Disputes are settled by binding individual arbitration, run by the American Arbitration Association under its consumer rules.
  • Either side may bring a claim in small-claims court instead.
  • We pay the arbitration filing fees for claims under $10,000.
  • You and we each give up the right to a jury trial and to a class action.
  • You can opt out of arbitration by emailing hello@tryestatevault.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. If you opt out, disputes are decided in the state or federal courts in Delaware.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If a change is significant, we will email you at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you keep using the Service after that date, you accept the new Terms.

17. Other terms

  • Entire agreement. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
  • Invalid parts. If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
  • No waiver. If we don't enforce something right away, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later.
  • Transfer. You may not transfer these Terms to anyone else. We may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
  • Things beyond our control. We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control.
